The second semester “Welcome to Bulgaria” day-trip for Erasmus students was to Kyustendil – one of the most ancient Bulgarian towns, with thousands of years of tradition and culture. It was called Pautalia in antiquity, which means 'spring town' due to the numerous thermal water springs with healing qualities. It was proclaimed a town in 106 A.D. by the the Roman Еmperor Marcus Ulpius Trajan, who was healed in its thermal waters from a disease.
The town is home to a number of historical sites and we managed to see the Medieval Church of St. George, the Regional History Museum "Academician Yordan Ivanov", Art Gallery "Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master", Dervish bath, Pyrkov Tower, Chiffet bath, Ahmed Bey Mosque (Archaeological Museum), the Roman Baths and Hisarlaka Fortress.
It was a valuable day for all and we hope these excursions will become a tradition.
