Practical Training in Building Structures
Students obtain knowledge on specific structural and technological features, layout solutions, details, technological processes, mechanization, etc. for a project executed on a specific construction site, following a specific building system. This training is conducted jointly by teachers from the departments Reinforced Concrete Structures, Construction Technology and Mechanization, and Metal, Timber and Plastic Structures.
Reconstruction of Reinforced Roncrete Industrial and Transportation Facilites
The course is aimed to provide knowledge on the main methods for assessment of the bearing structure of existing facilities and ways for strengthening and reconstruction of the elements of the structure. The practical aspect of the course is manifested in the fact that most of the utilities in our country are old and have to be repaired or strengthened.
Reinforced Concrete
The course consists of three parts: physical and mechanical properties of materials; theory of reinforced concrete, design of building components. Teaching follows the limit state design method. After finishing the course students are able to calculate members with respect to their bearing ability and for the 2nd group of limit states, as well as to make reinforcement detailing. Skills are developed for general composition solutions of buildings.

The project emphasizes on the development (in graphic form) of an overall design of an office building storey. The project deals with dimensioning and detailing of basic structural members, like slabs according to the “elastic system” method and “force redistribution” method, beams (fixed beam, continuous beam and torsion beam), provisionally axially compressed column, foundations (concrete and reinforced-concrete). Specificities in the analysis, dimensioning and detailing of earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete members are studied.

Reinforced Concrete Bridges
The subject Reinforced Concrete Bridges for the degree program of Structural Engineering is a continuation from the subject Reinforced Concrete (RC) studied in the 6th and 7th semester. After finishing the course students are able to design RC girder bridges of standard or prestressed RC. The limited number of hours allows learning of road girder bridges mainly, which are over 80% of the bridges in the country. The coursework is dedicated to a girder double-span road overpass.

The course is aimed to provide knowledge on the main methods for analysis and detailing of reinforced concrete bridges. Beam type road bridges of standard or prestressed reinforced concrete bridges have been mainly considered. The practical aspect of the course is manifested in the application of these methods in the seminars for reinforced concrete simple span bridge design.

Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of existing buildings
Some new and advanced methods for seismic evaluation of existing buildings, established in Japanese, American and European Codes, are presented in the course. Both conventional and some advanced methods, based on externally bonded reinforcement of FRP or polyester belts, are discussed. The main objective of the course is preparation of the students for solving various problems in seismic retrofit of existing buildings.
