After finishing the course students acquire skills for the following: (1) to prepare feasibility studies for selection of airport location; (2) to design airports; (3) to design the construction technology; (4) to determine the parameters of ACN / PCN; (5) to dimension airport structures according to different methods (incl. the recommendations of ICAO).

Students acquire skills to study air approaches and to determine the location of an airport, the number and length of the runways for taking-off and landing. They design, dimension and present cross section of the runway pavement with details. A general layout of an airport is prepared as well.

With the project development students gain knowledge and skills to design asphalt-concrete road pavements taking into account the admissible deformations, to check up tensile and shear stresses, to design typical and detailed cross sections, calculate earth mass, and make alignment of Bruckner polygon. The project contains also a plan for road drainage, hydraulic design and conceptual design of a gully.

Transport Planning
The module examines the evolution of transport policy and its impact on transport conditions, land use patterns, and frameworks within which transport planning is currently conducted. It introduces the transport planning methods and considers the practical tools that transport planners would use directly or need an understanding of in order to make effective judgements and decisions.
Transport Systems and Equipment
Students will be acquainted with the main topics related to technical and economic studies, planning and design of roads and transport structures. The following main issues are examined: load traffic, determination of routes of roads and structures and their design in plan and profile – tracing elements, earthworks, earth bed construction, roadway and road pavements, drainage and support works, maintenance and operation.

Special accent is put on the design of street pavements and street technical infrastructure’s components.
