Dynamics of structures and seismic analysis

Dynamics of structures and seismic analysis

The correct modelling of the dynamic properties of the structures and loading over them is absolutely necessary step in the design process. The verification of the behavior of the structure with the accepted ductile characteristics is to ensure the robustness of the building.

An important part of the design of structures is the creation of a model with static and dynamic load. The solution of a typical task of Dynamics of structures consists determining of basic properties of a structure and the structural response under dynamic and seismic loading. Different types of dynamic loadings are considered in the current curriculum: harmonic, pulse, step and spectral. Dynamic inertial properties should be applied with lumped or distributed mass approach.
In order to achieve the desired level of education the students must have knowledge on Statics of structures as well as fundamental subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical mechanics and Strength of materials. Seismic analysis part of the Curriculum is dedicated for the theoretical basis of the response spectrum method, as well as modern based on inelastic design spectrum (Capacity-Demand-diagram methods). Redesign strategies (stiffness increase, strength increase, increase of ductility, seismic isolation) are considered.
