IGSO is an international, non-governmental organization, whose purpose is to support international collaboration
for the progress of geodesy in all fields and applications. It was founded on the 10th May 1991, during the 4th
meeting at the Technical University of Graz (Austria).
IGSO has its own statute, authorities and logo.
The organization realizes following aims:
- grouping the associations or organizations of geodetic students from all countries in order to exchange views on
matters of their general interest
- representing the students of geodesy in the public field
- organizing liaisons between different member associations
- gathering information about the social conditions amongst geodetic students in individual countries, so that each
could take advantage of the improvement attained
- improving and supporting good relations with the proper authorities and the exchange of geodetic students between different countries.
IGSO enables students of subjects related with geodesy, cartography, photogrammetry and remote sensing not only to
exchange information, views and experiences, but also ensures contacts on professional matters with known agenda.
IGSO organizes an annual members reunion, called IGSM (International Geodetic Students Meeting) - a conference assembling
students of subjects related with geodesy. General Assembly gathers during each IGSM and evaluates its achievements,
acknowledges to report of present authorities and elects new ones. It also discusses actions, which are to be taken in
upcoming year. The official language of each IGSM is English.
IGSA - International Geodetic Students Agency, an administrative council, stands at the top of IGSO. It consists of the IGSO General Secretary, the Treasurer, Registration Member and an additional member. IGSO's activity is sponsored by subscriptions from its members, grants and subsidies from the national and international authorities or institutions, or by gifts or legacies from individuals.
Each members association pays an annual membership fee, fixed by the General Assembly.
The official language of the IGSO is English.
The official currency of the IGSO is Euro.

To become a member of IGSO, a university has to send its representation with an application to the IGSM.
