The course is meant to provide knowledge on the composition of thematic maps. The contemporary problems and perspectives in mapping are considered on the basis of the geographical principles of site investigation. Methods for cartographic analysis of sources are given as well as for the composition of the primary (author's) copy of a map. Issues related to the generalization and peculiarities of the composition of maps for natural and social phenomena are considered. Attention is paid to mapping works automation as well.
